Works (1995-1997)

Bellpole Hocket 1996; exploits the natural harmonics of aluminium poles ranging from dense textures of improvised sound to rapidly interlocked rhythmic sequences.Handbells and Vocal hocket 1995; highlights timbral qualities of the`tuned-tongue' aluminium hand-bells and voices of the performers. The instruments exploit a tuned tongue principle whereby the two ends of the tube length, slotted and resonator ends, are matched to reinforce one another. A range of playing techniques are used to give tonal variety, and the use of intricately hocketed rhythmic patterning gives a unique spatial quality to the sound. The tuning is in equal seven tone, a tuning traditionally found on Malaita in the Eastern Solomons Islands and in Thailand.

Fingerpot Rag 1995; an expanded percussion piece featuring a range of unique handheld instruments such as small scale `fingerpots' and `song-stones' in combination with the long-string `Zitherum" ( a piano-wire zither and drum combination using polystyrene resonators) and the 3 large percussion stations, featuring the bass pipe PVC's, 2 sets of `eye-drums' and tuned-tongue aluminium bells and gongs.
